My Inspiration

The year 2000 is very significant in my life. I was nineteen when my parents bought me my first computer and signed us up for the internet. This just so happened to be the same year that massive DDoS Attacks hit Yahoo, eBay, and Amazon, shutting them down for hours. The news reported that an attack tool, TFN (Tribal Flood Network), was used, which could be downloaded by anyone with internet access to wreak havoc on the web! This piqued my interest! How could just one program bring these massive websites down? I searched a bit and downloaded the program - took a look at the source files, and understood nothing from them. The files were written in the C programming language and used raw sockets to spoof the source IP and other header fields. I had no clue what any of that meant, and yet I felt captivated to learn more! I wanted to understand and demystify this part-science-part-art form. This started my journey down the rabbit hole that would eventually become a lifelong passionate pursuit to keep learning. I feel so lucky to have found my calling so early in life!

When you love something so much, you are protective of it. As all things became digital and attacks increased, mainstream media hijacked the narrative about hacks and hackers. The Characterization, in general, was overly pessimistic and superficial and made us the crooks of the digital age. Movies, TV Series, and books followed, compounding this rhetoric. The description of the hacks themselves was far removed from reality and made it look more like black magic than the creative science that it is.

Hackers: Superheroes of the Digital Age is my humble attempt to right this wrong. With this series, I hope to showcase the beauty and diversity of hacks and hackers. We will journey worldwide and see how hacker vigilantes from diverse backgrounds take on world problems with the one weapon they have - knowledge! But even with all their knowledge and skill sets, things don’t always go as planned!

My vision-mission with this comic book series is to pique the reader's curiosity and inspire them to explore this fascinating field! Bringing this self-funded comic series to life has been a massive effort. I am lucky to have found an incredibly committed team who has worked tirelessly to bring this project to life. I hope you enjoy this series as much as we did creating it! Wish us luck!
